The Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago is led by an Executive Committee that serves over a two year term of office.

 

PRESIDENT
Vanessa Thomas Williams heads her own law firm. She is, as well, an adjunct lecturer at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus and periodically publishes Articles on the areas of focus in employment law, which engage her as an Advocate Attorney. Mrs. Thomas Williams’ professional work extends to delivering corporate training services to employer communities in the Caribbean, in the fields of Industrial Relations, Human Resources Management, Workplace Policy Design and Implementation and Occupational Safety and Health Management. She regularly speaks at national and international conferences.

Mrs. Thomas Williams joined the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago in 2006 and she is the Association’s first lady President.

VICE PRESIDENT
Marjorie Stephens-Smith works as an Environmental Health and Safety Consultant. She is the owner of a consulting company established in 2008 and specializes in training in all facets of EHS Management Systems. She qualified as an International EHS Skills Reviewer for the British American Tobacco Group of Companies (BAT) and she is also certified as a lead Auditor for OHSAS 18001 standards. Mrs. Stephens-Smith has dedicated her life to educating and teaching about the importance of environmental awareness and Health and Safety practices both at national and international levels.

Mrs. Stephens Smith joined the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago in 1999.

IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT
David St. Clair is currently employed by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission as the Manager - Health, Safety and Environment. He is the current President of Caribbean Association of Business Continuity Professionals. Mr. St Clair holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Electrical Engineering. He has benefited from professional training via the OSHA 501 Certified Trainer Course in General Industry Occupational Safety and Health Standards. He also holds a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and a Certificate in OSHA Compliance.

Mr. St Clair joined the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago in 2001 and has previously served, as its President.

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
Michael Viechweg, now retired, has held the position of Quality Health, Safety and Environment Compliance Officer at the Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL). He has attained Diplomas in Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Management, and holds a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. Additionally, he possesses certification in Applied Training and Development and was exposed to Asbestos O&M worker Initial Training.
Mr. Viechweg joined the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago in 1994. He celebrates more than twenty (20) years of exemplary service and support to the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago and its membership.

TREASURER
Pamellon Raphael is the current Treasurer of the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago, having joined the Council, in the year 2012.
Ms. Raphael has worked at Mario’s Pizzeria Ltd. for approximately 29 years, and currently serves that Company, in the position of Quality Assurance Manager. She possesses a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment and remains a Certified Manager of Quality/ Organisational Excellence, of The American Society for Quality. Her other qualifications include an Advanced Certificate in Applied Training and Development.

SECRETARY
Simon Cadette is a risk and insurance manager with over 35 years’ experience. As a risk analyst he has broad experience in industries as varied as oil and gas, manufacturing and tourism.
He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACCI) of the U.K. and has served at senior levels in the insurance industry in underwriting, broking and claims. He is currently the Chairman and C.E.O. of Simon Cadette Limited, an insurance management company.
Mr. Cadette is currently the Vice President of the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER
Marcia Nathai-Balkissoon is a Registered Professional Engineer, and currently serves as a Lecturer at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. Her qualifications include a B.Sc. Industrial Engineering, M.Sc. Engineering Management, NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, OSHA General Industry Occupational Health and Safety Certificate and ISO 9000 Lead Auditor Certificate. She has fulfilled quality, food safety, maintenance and safety management functions, and in 2009 served as a judging panel member for the T&T OSH Awards.

Mrs. Nathai-Balkissoon joined the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago in 2008.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER
Benjamin De La Rosa is currently an Occupational Health & Safety and Security Consultant who specializes in providing training and support to organizations under the umbrella of the OSH Act, Safety Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems. He holds an MSc Degree in Health and Safety Management, a Diploma in Environmental Management and Certification in Advanced Safety. He currently serves as the 1st Vice President of the Zoological Society of Trinidad and Tobago, a Past President of the San Juan Rotary Club and President and Founding member of the Galeota Point Nature Reserve.

Mr. De La Rosa joined the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago in 2006.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER
Paula-Marie Granado is an Independent HSSE Consultant and currently works as a Facilities / Property Manager. Ms. Granado previously worked with bpTT as an Area Authority (2006–2013). She holds a NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health & Safety and in 2007 gained an OSHA Authorized Trainers Certificate through University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) School of Public Health. Ms. Granado previously served as President of the St George County REACT Team 4928 four times and is also a Past Vice-President of the REACT Council of Trinidad and Tobago. At present, she holds the position of Emergency Management Chairperson in REACT Team 4928.

She is a Member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Managers and has a British Standards Institute Lead Auditor Certificate for the ISO OSHAS 18001 which she is presently upgrading to the ISO Standard 45001–2018. Ms. Grando joined the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago in 2018.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER
Fareed Sahibdeen is currently self-employed. He last worked on a full-time basis, at the Metal Industries Company Limited (M.I.C) as a Safety Officer, in the Multi-Sector Skills Training Programme. He has attained a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and was also awarded Diplomas in Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental Management. Further, he provides training in Health and Safety Standards.
Mr. Sahibdeen joined the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago in 1998. He now celebrates twenty (20) years of exemplary service and support to the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago and its membership.
